The Faith Academy of Marble Falls football team lost to Bulverde Gloria Deo 80-50 Sept. 27.

“They are a very tough team,” Flames head coach Jay Silvers said. “They are mentally prepared.”

Senior Nolan Chandler and junior Kai Wallace led the way for the Lions (3-1).

“They were going to run the ball with (those two),” Silvers said. “They were tough to bring down and keep them contained. There were times we stopped them. Other times, they ran all over us. (Chandler) is a tough kid to contain. He made us pay quite a bit.”

When the Flames (2-4) had the ball, they were able to move it. But on the money downs — third and fourth downs — Gloria Deo tightened defensively.

Faith was 3 for 10 on third down and 4 for 12 on fourth down.

“They did a really good job of keeping our guys contained,” Silvers said. “The pressure they brought kept our guys from seeing open guys down the field. We’re trying to give our guys enough time to read.”

He noted Gloria Deo had defenders coming on blitzes and from the sides. The Flames also missed some blocks. The result was forcing quarterback to avoid being sacked.

“The quarterback’s eyes tend to go down,” he said. “It made it harder. We could have had some deep balls. We had the lead in the second quarter. We couldn’t work our extra points. That put us back a little bit.”

Freshman Landon Silvers had seven rushes for 94 yards and two touchdowns, caught five passes for 18 yards and a score, and had a 65-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Junior Andrew Houy completed 17 of 28 passes for 162 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions and had a 67-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

The Flames welcomes Oglesby (3-2) at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, to Britton Field.
